Sound Recording Technology: Books/eBooks

This guide will help you find reference books, e-books, and music databases that will help you research topics related to music technology and sound design.

Some Search Tips

Use the library's catalog to search for sound recording technology materials.

Tips to keep in mind when searching:

1) Searching for "sound recording technology"  under the Key Word or Subject criteria will not always give you the best results.

2) Instead, if you are searching for materials on this subject that are available in our library's collection, then use one or more of the following Subject Headings:

  • Electronic music
  • Electronic musical instruments
  • Computer music
  • Computer composition
  • Music -- Data processing
  • Sound recording industry--History
  • Sound--Recording and reproducing--Digital techniques

These help narrow the focus of the search and can be helpful if you have a specific topic or genre you're interested in exploring. If you want to know all of the Subject Headings for a particular item in our catalog, then click the Catalog Record tab in the item's record. You can click on one of the Subject Headings and it will bring up a list of all the other items in the library that have the same Subject Heading.

Important Note: Keep in mind that some of these subject searches will return mostly (if not all) eBook and online resources. If you are only interested in book results, then select BOOK under the "Format" option on the Advanced Search page. This will provide you a list of books under the selected subject.

Physical Books

Please enter the title, keyword, name of the author or ISBN number to this search box for searching books in the library catalog.

E-books

You can directly search for e-books from the library catalog. However, you can also go to the specific library database in order to search an e-book. The Library offers access to nearly 200 thousand e-books in all academic disciplines including music. Books may be read online or downloaded for a short loan period to read offline. Here are the most well-known e-book databases that our library subscribed:
